Recent stream alluvium
Unconsolidated clay, sand, silt or gravel that has been recently deposited, from a geological perspective, by a stream or running water along the stream channel, on its flood plain or at the base of a mountain slope.
Reclaimed water
Definition as effluent in A.R.S. § 45-101.
Reclaimed Water Recovered Outside the Area of Impact
Reclaimed water that has been stored pursuant to Title 45, Chapter 3.1, Arizona Revised Statutes, and recovered outside the area of impact of storage. For purposes of this definition, “area of impact” has the same meaning as prescribed by A.R.S. § 45-802.01.
Reclaimed Water-Served Cooling Tower
A cooling tower served by a make-up water supply that on an annual average basis consists of 50 percent or more reclaimed water.
Reference crop evapotranspiration (Eto)
An estimate of the water used by a well-watered, full-cover grass surface, 8-11.5 cm in height (the reference crop).
Remedial Groundwater
Groundwater withdrawn pursuant to an approved remedial action project, but does not include groundwater withdrawn to provide an alternative water supply pursuant to A.R.S. § 49-282.03.
Reservoir
An artificially created lake where water is collected and stored for future use.
Residential Customer
A person who is supplied water by a municipal provider for a residential use.
Residential use
A non-irrigation use of water related to the activities of a singe family or multifamily housing unit or units, including exterior water use.
Return flow
The amount of water that reaches a groundwater or surface water source after release from the point of use and thus becomes available for further use. In other words, that part of a diverted flow, which is not consumptively used and returns to its original source or another body of water.
Revegetation Acres
Revegetation acres means acreage within and/or contiguous to a turf-related facility that has been approved by the Director as qualifying for a revegetation allotment addition.
Riparian area
A geographical area that is characterized by deep-rooted plant species that occurs within or adjacent to a natural perennial or intermittent stream channel, lake, pond or marsh bed maintained primarily by natural water sources. Riparian area does not include areas in or adjacent to ephemeral stream channels, artificially created stockponds, man-made storage reservoirs constructed primarily for conservation or regulatory storage, municipal and industrial ponds or man-made water transportation, distribution, off-stream storage and collection systems.

All water appropriable as public waters and all water subject to claims based upon federal law.

The portion of precipitation that is not intercepted by vegetation, absorbed by land surfaces or evaporated and that flows overland into a depression, lake, stream or ocean.
